WHAT I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS
Making up gift request lists invariably has every sentence begin with “I want.” Watching television this time of year makes me think I want all sorts of things, and that if I just want them enough, I can have them all.I might start with a fancy car with a gigantic red bow on top—I’d love to have that bow, and a whole new wardrobe. Then I could get beautiful jewelry, packs of my favorite TV shows and even a Chia pet that looks like Sponge Bob.
One of those video games where my whole body is the controller would be really great, if only I could jump and move the way I would need to play the game. I want all these and more, I think.
But wait. It may be the stuff dreams are made of but they are really only stuff. And mostly they are things I don’t even need. In fact, I’m trying to reduce the number of things I own.
So I’ve been giving some thought to what I really want, mostly things that no one could get me. Of course, I want health and happiness for all my family and friends. I want sweets to have the same calories as vegetables and fitness to be a cinch. I want to make a difference. I want challenges, imagination, inspiration and passion. And I especially want to be able to take a stroll on a warm beach.
I hope that you get and give the gifts that are truly meaningful. Best wishes for a happy holiday.
